For calls to work reliably, dial every number in international format, including local numbers.

  1. Start with + (on most keypads, press and hold 0) or with the international prefix 00.
  2. Enter the country code. Examples: 1 for the US and Canada, 44 for the UK, 61 for Australia, 33 for France, 971 for the UAE.
  3. Enter the phone number, usually without the first zero.

Example

A UK mobile number written as 07700 900123 is dialled as +44 7700 900123.

The same format applies when you send SMS. See How do I read SMS, send SMS and use calls?
